IAICU Hosts 7signal at Technology Workshop for Iowa Universities
INDIANOLA, IA — This week, 7signal, The Wi-Fi Performance Company, is participating at this years Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (IAICU) annual technology workshop hosted by Simpson College. The workshop and annual conference is where 7signal will share practical knowledge and information about how reliable Wi-Fi can be achieved utilizing its Wi-Fi performance management system for universities. IAICU represents 26 private, non-profit colleges and universities in Iowa.
The 2014 Information Technology Workshop offers an outstanding opportunity to network with IT professionals in the higher education sector as well as representatives from the IT industry. Breakout sessions presented by colleagues from around the state will explore new technology in systems and networking, user services, and IT project management.
In a recent survey of over 200 full-time college students, 96% indicate that reliable Wi-Fi is important to their success. However, 78% say that they always, frequently or sometimes complain (to themselves or a friend) about the quality of the Wi-Fi on campus. 7signal puts a system in place that includes patented Wi-Fi sensorss trategically placed around campus. The sensors, called Sapphire Eyes, act like clients and perform active tests, exercising and measuring the student Wi-Fi experience 24 hours a day. The Eyes also perform passive testing, which collect and measure data regarding the quality of the RF environment. 7signal analyzes the data with its software and provides IT professionals with a way to proactively monitor and measure Wi-Fi performance around campus and to get notifications when performance begins to slip out of compliance. This occurs before students and faculty notice any drop in performance that would impede their productivity. The same survey also found that only 18% of students who have Wi-Fi issues actually report the problems to the campus IT Help Desk, further validating the need for a proactive system.
